She received her undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in December of 2008. Kristin married Kyle Mims, of Clanton, in 2009 and began working in the healthcare industry. Kristin worked with Comfort Care Home Health and Hospice for 10 years as a consultant and marketing coordinator.
She then attended Jefferson State community college in 2017 and graduated in 2018 having earned a degree in Mortuary Science. Ali is a long-time resident of the Jemison/Thorsby community. She is the daughter of Mark & Glenna Dawson, granddaughter of Arline & Catherine Dawson and Morton & Nancy Claxon. Born in Chilton County on December 14, 1938 at Clanton Hospital. He graduated from Chilton County High School in 1957, and in 1962, Jimmy graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science.

One son, Terry “Ty” Byrd; and four daughters, Kassie Simmons, Kamber Nwransky, Shayna Wyatt and Shelbie Maddox. Keilan will begin college this fall at Jefferson State Community College to pursue his career in accounting and pursue his life-long dream of becoming a State Trooper. Jim has one son, David Gardner and one daughter, Kristin Mims. He also has four grandchildren, Mallory, Emma Grace, Brady and Kelton. Ali attended Thorsby High School and graduated in 2006.

He, along with his brothers, Donny and Bobby Martin have continued the legacy of their grandfather by operating Martin Funeral Home. They also provided an Ambulance Service for our community until 1968. Jimmy and Bobby also acquired four cemeteries through the years.
